How to remove “<link rel=’shortlink’…” from head section

The Header Security feature in WP Adminify allows you to remove several default WordPress meta tags from your website’s head section, including the <link rel='shortlink'...> tag. The shortlink tag provides a shortened URL for a post or page, which is typically not needed and can be safely removed to clean up your website’s HTML.

Follow these steps to remove the <link rel='shortlink'...> tag:

1. Access the Header Security Settings

From the WordPress Dashboard:

  • Navigate to WP Adminify > SecurityHeader Security from the menu.

2. Enable Header Security

Ensure the Header Security feature is activated by toggling the Show switch to green.

3. Remove "<link rel='shortlink'...>"

The <link rel='shortlink'...> tag is a meta tag WordPress automatically adds to the head section of your site's HTML. It provides a shortened URL to your posts or pages, typically in the form of https://yoursite.com/?p=123. This is mostly useful in older systems or cases where short links are needed, but it’s often redundant if you're already using proper SEO-friendly permalinks (like https://yoursite.com/sample-post/).

Why Remove It?

Many site owners choose to remove the <link rel='shortlink'...> tag for a cleaner HTML structure, as it doesn't serve much purpose in modern SEO practices. Removing it can reduce clutter in your site's HTML and slightly improve performance.

In the Header Security settings:

  • Find the option labeled Remove "<link rel='shortlink'..." from head section.
  • Check the box next to this option to remove the shortlink tag from your site's HTML.

4. Save the Settings

Once you’ve selected the option, scroll down and click the Save Changes button to apply the update.

5. Verify the Removal

To confirm that the shortlink tag has been removed:

  • Open your site in a browser and right-click on the page.

Select View Page Source and search for <link rel='shortlink'...>. You should no longer see this tag in the head section.
