How to disable self ping from your own websites?
WordPress pings (or trackbacks) occur when you link from one post or page to another within your site. By default, WordPress treats these as external links, sending a self-ping notification to the post being linked. Disabling self-pings can help keep your comments section clean from unnecessary trackbacks.
Using the Header Security feature in WP Adminify, you can easily disable self-pings on your WordPress site.
1. Access the Header Security Settings
From the WordPress Dashboard:
- Navigate to WP Adminify > Security > Header Security from the menu.
2. Enable Header Security
Make sure that the Header Security feature is enabled by toggling the Show switch to the green, activated state.
3. Disable Self-Ping
In the Header Security settings:
- Look for the option labeled Disable self-ping, which will prevent your website from sending pingbacks to itself when you link from one page or post to another.
- Check the box next to Disable self-ping.
This will stop WordPress from creating self-ping notifications, reducing unnecessary clutter in your post comments and improving internal linking.
4. Save Changes
Once you’ve selected the option to disable self-ping, scroll to the bottom of the page and click Save Changes to apply your settings.
5. Verify the Change
To confirm that self-pings have been disabled:
- Create a new post or edit an existing one.
- Add an internal link to another post or page on your site.
- Publish or update the post.
- Check the linked post to ensure no pingback has been generated in the comments section.
